Our life drawing classes take place in the Nicholas Building. The Nicholas Building is located at 37 Swanston Street, Melbourne and is situated on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Lane. To find us, enter the building through Cathedral Arcade (next to Subway), take the elevator to level 4 and follow the signs to studio 11–12.

Our untutored drop-in life drawing classes are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 7-9pm. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of their age or experience. The classes give people the chance to draw the human figure in a relaxed and friendly environment. For $15 ($10 if you’re under 16 or over 60), all of the materials are provided including paper, drawing boards, charcoal, pencils and coloured pastels. Please note: The classes fill up quickly. We advise you to come early as we do not accept bookings. Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start. We accept cash payment only.

We will close for a summer break from 14 December 2017 – 14 January 2018. Our classes resume on Monday, 15 January 2018.

The life drawing classes started in September 2008 at No Vacancy Gallery (2008–2015) and are facilitated by Louise Klerks. The classes have attracted a large number of people who draw collectively each week.

Louise Klerks completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at Sydney College of the Arts, New South Wales from 2002 -2005, a Diploma of Education (Secondary, Visual Art) at University Of Melbourne in 2007 followed by a short course in Small Business Management (Certificate IV) at RMIT in 2011. Louise is currently undertaking a Master of Art Curatorship at University of Melbourne. She is the co-founder and Gallery Director of non-profit art space Chapter House Lane in Melbourne.

At Life Drawing, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment by recycling and reusing all of our class materials. We encourage people to donate their unwanted art materials (i.e pencils, charcoal, pastels) to the classes so they can be re used  by our drawing group.

In 2017, we enjoy the finest charcoals, pastels and paper with thanks to Art Spectrum who give generously to our classes.

Life Drawing welcomes all kinds of community and corporate support. If you’d like to make a one-off contribution or create a long lasting relationship with us, please get in touch!

Get in contact if you’d like to organise a private group session. We can host large groups; up to 40 people (excluding hens parties).
